Episode 73 - Judging Between Sheep and Goats,” based on Matthew 25:31-46.

Episode Summary

In this famous parable that Jesus told, we mostly ignore the details or interpret it individualistically. The judgment is on nations, not individuals. There is some ambiguity about the identity of “the least of these,” though the phrase might refer to anyone needing the items mentioned. Perhaps most startling is the fact that both sheep and goats are completely surprised about the verdict. Equally startling is that the judgment is based completely on behavior, not belief. Given those last two data points, the parable is hardly comforting.
